As an international student at UIUC, my time here has been nothing short of transformative. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I was welcomed with open arms into a vibrant community that celebrates diversity and fosters academic excellence. I was fascinated by how inclusive this community is and the variety of clubs it has to offer aimed at fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. I am grateful to the fact that this university has become my home away from home. However, there are a few things that could enhance the experience of future incoming students. For an international student, there were many official tasks like opening up bank accounts, and registering for classes that were not explained very well and could be highly confusing for students who are in a different country and are not familiar with how things work here. By improving this factor, I believe that new students will only cherish this university more!

I am going to be attending U of I in the fall and currently, it has been my obsession. My days consist of watching videos of current students at U of I and endlessly looking at photos of the beautiful campus. I have been to campus a few times and the food there is unmatched. There is a diverse range of restaurants to chose from which is really important for me. The dorms are newly renovated and there are currently renovations happening on campus. This shows the strive for improvement of what is already a wonderful campus. The few teachers and advisors I have met with have all been brilliant. They show optimism, intelligence, and support in so many ways. I am so excited to attend U of I in the fall and I know I will have the most beautiful time!

As someone who grew up in Champaign my whole life, it was really interesting to see how different it is to live on campus. Everything is so much more alive, and the campus is really active. I've always loved seeing the diversity that the university brings, and it was part of the reason why I decided to stay in town for college, as other colleges that didn't have the diversity we do did not make me feel like I was in the right place to really learn and grow as a person. I like the fact that the student population is so large, and that there are so many different classes you can take. However, some university departments such as housing can be found lacking, and I was in temporary housing for my entire first semester due to an over-enrollment issue, and housing was extremely unsympathetic to our needs. They tend to be understaffed and this can lead to a lack of assistance in many departments and offices on campus. Also, a lot of entertainment on campus is just greek life and bars.
